Mental Health Conditions We Address
Mental Health Management Group provides psychiatric evaluation and care for a range of mental health conditions across the lifespan. Diagnoses are determined only after a comprehensive clinical assessment conducted by a licensed healthcare professional using established diagnostic criteria published by the American Psychiatric Association. The information below is provided for general educational purposes.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety is a normal stress response; however, when feelings of fear or nervousness are excessive, persistent, or disproportionate to a situation, they may warrant clinical evaluation. Anxiety-related conditions can include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, and separation anxiety disorder. A structured evaluation helps determine whether symptoms meet diagnostic criteria and whether treatment may be appropriate.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, impulse control, and executive functioning. Symptoms may present differently across age groups and may include inattentiveness, hyperactivity, or combined features.
When clinically indicated, assessment may include clinical interviews, rating scales, and objective measures such as Continuous Performance Testing (CPT) provided through our Educational Psychology team. Self-assessment tools are for educational purposes only and do not replace professional evaluation.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. Presentation and severity vary widely among individuals. Diagnostic assessment may involve standardized testing, clinical interviews, and developmental history when appropriate.
Bipolar and Related Disorders
Bipolar disorders involve changes in mood, energy, and activity levels that may include periods of elevated or irritable mood as well as depressive episodes. Accurate diagnosis requires careful differentiation from other mood-related conditions through comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.
Depressive Disorders
Depression is characterized by persistent low mood, loss of interest, and changes in sleep, appetite, energy, or concentration. Severity and duration vary. Evaluation helps determine whether symptoms meet criteria for a depressive disorder and guides discussion of treatment options.
Disruptive, Impulse-Control, and Conduct-Related Disorders
These conditions involve persistent patterns of emotional or behavioral dysregulation that exceed typical developmental expectations. Clinical evaluation considers duration, severity, and functional impact.
Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders may involve disruptions in memory, identity, perception, or sense of self, often associated with prior trauma. Assessment includes detailed clinical history and evaluation of related symptoms.
Gender Dysphoria
Gender dysphoria refers to distress that may arise from incongruence between an individual’s experienced gender and assigned sex at birth. Evaluation focuses on understanding the individual’s experience and determining appropriate clinical support when needed.
Hoarding Disorder
Hoarding disorder involves persistent difficulty discarding possessions, leading to clutter that interferes with living spaces and functioning. Diagnosis is based on established clinical criteria.
Intellectual Disability
Intellectual disability involves limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior. Assessment may include standardized testing and review of developmental history.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD involves recurrent intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause distress or impairment. Evaluation differentiates OCD from other anxiety-related conditions.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
ODD involves a persistent pattern of angry or defiant behavior toward authority figures that exceeds typical developmental behavior. Clinical assessment considers context, duration, and severity.
Personality Disorders
Personality disorders involve enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that differ significantly from cultural expectations and cause distress or functional impairment. Diagnosis requires careful, longitudinal assessment.
Peripartum and Postpartum Depression
Peripartum depression may occur during pregnancy or after childbirth and can involve significant mood changes, anxiety, or changes in functioning. Evaluation is important to determine appropriate care.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD may develop after exposure to a traumatic event and can include intrusive memories, avoidance behaviors, mood changes, and heightened reactivity. Symptoms must meet established criteria and persist for a defined period before diagnosis is made.
Schizophrenia and Related Psychotic Disorders
Schizophrenia and related conditions may involve disruptions in perception, thinking, and behavior. Symptoms can include hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized speech. Diagnosis requires comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.
Specific Learning Disorder
Specific learning disorder involves persistent difficulties in reading, writing, or mathematics that are not consistent with age expectations. Evaluation may include standardized academic testing and cognitive assessment.
